AASB Research Director’s prestigious appointment recognises Australia’s accounting expertise

Australian Accounting Standards Board Research Director Professor Ann Tarca is the second Australian to be appointed to the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).

Announced overnight by the Trustees of the IFRS Foundation – the body responsible for the governance and oversight of the IASB – Ann will be one of only 14 board members who hold responsibility for setting the accounting standards that are followed by more than 130 jurisdictions worldwide, including Australia.

Ann said, “I am excited and honoured to be appointed as a member of the Board and look forward to working with my fellow Board members, staff and stakeholders to help deliver on the IFRS Foundation’s mission and strategic objectives.”

In addition to her role at AASB, Ann is currently a Professor of Accounting at the University of Western Australia. She is a former member of the AASB and has more than 20 years' academic experience and strong connections with both the international academic community and the professional community.

AASB Chair Kris Peach commented, “This prestigious appointment recognises Ann's international reputation and extensive experience, and indeed, the strength of accounting standard setting expertise in Australia. We look forward to continuing to work with her and the IASB in the ongoing development of International Financial Reporting Standards.”

Ann will commence her appointment next month. Further information is available on the IFRS website.
