Professor Dean Hanlon

Dean Hanlon was appointed a member of the AASB from 2021, building on his prior technical and policy advocacy and development roles. He is a Professor at RMIT University, with his research focusing on thought leadership to advance financial reporting practices, principally in the for-profit sector.  Dean has undertaken many industry-commissioned research projects, with his findings informing the work of the IASB, the ISSB and the AASB. He has been invited to speak by various national and international standard-setters, professional accounting bodies, and at numerous national and international academic conferences.    

Dean has previously served on CPA Australia’s External Reporting Centre of Excellence and currently serves on the Academic Advisory Panel of the AASB. He has acted as a pedagogical and IFRS technical consultant for several professional accounting bodies, both nationally and internationally. Prior to joining academia, Dean held financial accounting roles in both the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors.

Dean is a Fellow of CPA Australia and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
